What Makes RSI's ICE Technology Different

RSI’s patented ICE technology and industrial degassing equipment incorporate a processor-controlled emissions tracking carburation system on a specifically designed internal combustion engine (ICE), where the engine becomes both the vacuum pump and air pollution control device. Our technology allows us to render services with NO FLARE, NO CARBON, and NO DISPOSAL.

RSI'S ICE TECHNOLOGY ADVANTAGES

  • RSI's ICE uses 100% of the waste stream as its primary fuel source, plus ICE may be turned down to 25% of its BTU/hr rating during certain times of the job; both resulting in reduced alternate fuel cost compared to thermal oxidization that doesn’t share these features. In fact, thermal oxidizers require an engine/generator to power their system, which in itself uses more energy.
  • RSI’s ICE is the only air pollution control device that serves multiple purposes by providing free energy to transfer BTU value of process waste stream into usable energy, for instance, the engine and/or is waste is used to power
  • Our Chiller module offers a portion of the product to be recovered when vapor is condensed back into liquid (also used to increase the capacity of a unit without sacrificing space)
  • Our patented exhaust heat is used to power oxidizer that operates in parallel with the engine (two air pollution control devices) at one O&M price.
  • Radiator heat (glycol) may be used for whatever purpose.
  • Onboard generator for power distribution on and off the job site.
  • Unlike the competition, we don't use thermal oxidizers for air pollution control.
  • Dozens of manufacturers sell thermal oxidization technology; those who do don’t have a unique approach to degassing and are pretty much resolved to selling price only.
  • RSI ICE technology is “user-friendly,” meaning easier technician traning due to a “turn-key” feature where the system practically operates itself (designed to run 24/7 unattended).
  • Thermal oxidizers are more complicated and more susceptible to high alarm shutdown events due to PLC temperature control loop controlling slow motorized operating valves.
Process Flow Rates vs. Mass Removal Rates
Most oxidation processes require in-fluent dilution air to meet acceptable LEL process safety limits – sometimes reducing in-fluent concentration down to 20% of LEL values. High process flow rates, therefore, do not necessarily equate to high mass removal rates, especially when VOC abatement is required.
Stop paying for processing ambient air! Our Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) technology utilizes dilution air only as necessary to maintain stoichiometric combustion. Further, ProGreen® ICE systems can operate with VOC influent concentrations at or above LEL with minimal to no supplemental fuel usage.
In the final analysis, when you compare the capital, installation, utility and O&M costs of thermal and catalytic oxidizers to ICE systems on a “cost per pound destroyed” basis, ICE technology is usually the clear, cost-effective choice.
According to a study conducted by the United States Air Force (AFCEE):

“Based upon the cost estimate provided in Section 3.4, ICE technology is similar to that of thermal and catalytic oxidation when in-fluent concentrations range between 3,000 to 5,000 ppmv TVH. Above these concentrations, ICE technology becomes more cost-effective.”*

The Carbon Filter Myth
RSI been designing, engineering, and manufacturing vapor control ICE Technology since 1987, and specifically for the tank degassing industry for the past 15 years.
  • According to SCAQMD, over 45% of the tanks being degassed over the past 10 years have been done with engines, of them RSI’s
  • In May of 2008, Rule 1149 changed whereas 2.3 tank volume exchanges are no longer acceptable for considering a tank degassed.
  • It is now required that the PPMV inside the tank be reduced down to 5000 PPMV as methane.
  • The result of this rule as it relates to the type of equipment used on site is that mass throughput (usually expressed in BTU/hr) is just as important as flow capacity
